Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics was founded in 1897 by two widowed sisters, Dr. Katharine Berry Richardson, a surgeon, and Dr. Alice Berry Graham, a dental surgeon. Today, The Children's Mercy Hospital provides more than 40,000 in-patient days of care and more than 135,000 visits in the out-patient department each year.
